As I mentioned in the landing page of this website, I am an avid fan of the Star Wars story. The first movie, A New Hope was first released in 1977. The movie opens with creeping text, and features the famous lines that really set the tone for the Star Wars Universe: A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
Those lines shape the imagination of the person following the story ,because they imply that the universe is not only vast, but time is also a concept that we do not even think about in our real lives.
The movies are fantastic in conception, with the main theme being something that we are all familiar with – the eternal struggle between good and evil. The story also features the mysterious Jedi Order. In truth, no one could have expected such a great response to this incredible science fiction phenomenon. The sheer popularity of it led new directors and writers to dream up three prequels that told the story of how Darth Vader – the central villain in the story – came to exist. He was originally a Jedi, working for the power of good, and then succumbed to the temptation of the dark side.
The light and the dark side refer to The Force – a mysterious energy that gifted ones can harness. Those that use it for the light are Jedi, and those that use it for the dark are the Sith. Jedi and Sith are locked in an eternal battle. The Jedi seek to restore balance to the force which has shifted to the dark side through the Sith. The prequels were also successful and have led to the creation of stories that follow on from the original three episodes. Some of the actors were brought back to take part in the filming, while others who had passed away were controversially ‘resurrected’ through CGI.
